So I've got this quandary. My boy is three and still wearing diapers. I haven't even tried potty training because until now, circumstances have not been right for successful potty training (I do the one-day method, put them straight in underwear, and it's wonderful but a lot of work--setting them up for success means that you're stuck at home for about a week). He started showing interest a year ago at age two, but we were preparing for a cross-country move and didn't know where we'd live, etc. I held him off and figured we'd try in the early fall after we were settled in our new place. Surprise! We didn't get "settled" for almost eight months. I thought I'd try then, and I gave a half-hearted attempt for a few hours one morning, but he was resistant, and I didn't want a battle. Besides, I was about to take a 2-week trip with the kids. Not a good time for something new! After we returned, D was working nights for a month, so I decided to try after that was over. Then we found out we'd be taking another trip soon. No good! So after we got back from the other trip, I thought the time might be right. Then we decided to take another trip. The Training Event was put off yet again. We are now back from that trip, and I could go ahead and set aside a day to do it, but as mentioned above, I'm feeling lazy. Oh, what to do?
My other issue is, Chiquitita is showing the signs that she's ready now. Squeak potty-trained before age two, so I'm not surprised. Do I let my baby learn first, or my 3-year-old, or do I just say no to being stuck at home when I really just want to get out of the house?
I think this looks much more appealing than sitting inside near the potty!

There NEVER seems to be a good time for time consuming stuff! Addi is officially trained, she's 3& 1/2. She took about a week maybe two to make it stick but she did a great job. Straight to panties she went & rarely had an accident. When they did happen, she cleaned it up herself & put on new undies herself. She really did a great job, once I decided to make the effort. Which I decided I didn't have a lot of motivation to do so I just made her a basic pee-pee chart (20 toilets in a chart & stickers to stick on each potty, 2 for poops) & turned it over to her. Hopefully your big boy will be a champ! Good luck.
oops, it was 50 toilets.
Thanks for the motivation to record a great event on my blog. My blog is so boring I don't update it hardly ever. So, thanks again!!!
rAgreed. There is never a convenient time for potty training. But I do think that summer is the best time for boys. So much easier to be able to let them go outside, when needed. I kept putting off training Kaleigh because I didn't want to spent lots of time next to the bathroom, but I finally buckled down since I want her to be able to go to preschool in September. I put her in underwear and stayed home most of ONE day. Mission accomplished. She loved the idea of wearing underwear, and her determined personality helped me out for once. We still put her in pull-ups for naptime and at night, but she's only had two accidents in three weeks.
kill 2 birds with 1 stone. maybe your little guy will be motivated if baby is doing it. will just potty trained this summer, only 1 week of total craziness and it is done. i say go for it if they are willing. william is super stubborn so i was worried...he is a natural at throwing tantrums over little things, but he was interested and so it didn't go too badly. no more dipaers eva for me!!! yay! i am not even sad one bit. :)
agree! time for a potty party!!! And why can't you be outside? I took my potty out there for half the day one time:-)
